Ah Meng, our beloved orang utan has passed on
Ah Meng, well remembered by many, has gone to orang utan heaven on 8 February 2008. She was well loved and will not be easily forgotten. She was 48. Tributes are now open for her at the Singapore Zoo's website. I will miss her too.

But, Ah Beng, and Ah Ying, are still around!!

Ah Meng will be hard to replace. More than anything, she was an icon, and her legacy will live on. Funny thing is, quite a lot of us in my age group always teased each other by saying we would see Ah Meng when we look at the mirror. That was how close she had become in our hearts. The reality of life kicks in when we find that she too, won't live forever. RIP Ah Meng, may you be forever happy in orang utan heaven, and if your heaven is the same as mine, ie., if I get to heaven :p, I hope i'll see you again.

#DOREEN: thank you for your kind message. yes, Ah Meng's memory will live on. it's a bit silly to feel so sentimental over an orang utan, but she was special to alot of us here.

it's not silly at all to feel sentimental, sweetie. most animals in this world are more human than us humans, imho.

#{ILLYRIA}: yes, sweet heart. that can't be further from the truth. at least in the animal kingdom, they understand the hierarchy of things; love and mutual respect. we humans end up simply killing each other over power and greed.
